Google Search Console shows how Google discovers and presents your site in search. It is not a complete analytics platform, but it is the best starting point for indexation, query visibility, sitemap feedback, and many technical alerts.
Choose and verify the right property
A Domain property covers protocols and subdomains and usually requires a DNS record. URL-prefix properties cover only the exact prefix but support additional verification methods. Keep verification in place so access survives site redesigns.
Submit a clean sitemap
Add the canonical sitemap URL after checking that it returns valid XML and contains only preferred indexable pages. Submission helps discovery and provides diagnostics; it does not guarantee that every listed page will be indexed.
Inspect a few important URLs
Use URL inspection for the homepage, key category pages, and representative articles. Compare the declared and selected canonical, crawl status, indexing state, and rendered content. Fix systemic template issues before requesting repeated indexing.
Create a calm monitoring routine
Review performance and indexing monthly, plus after major migrations or releases. Save query and page comparisons for meaningful periods. Alerts deserve investigation, but normal delays and fluctuations do not require daily intervention.
Quick action checklist
- Verify the correct property
- Keep verification active
- Submit a clean sitemap
- Inspect representative templates
- Review data on a monthly cadence
Put this into practice
Choose one change from the checklist, apply it to a small group of representative pages, and record the date. Check the result after search engines have had time to revisit the pages. Sustainable SEO usually comes from clear priorities and consistent maintenance rather than many simultaneous changes.
